Shout Outs!

Mr. Warye

“Has gone above and beyond as a coach and a teacher. He built up my child's confidence on the field and made her feel that she was immediately part of a team and that he was a trusted adult. He noticed she struggled at the start of the school year, talked to my child, and took multiple actions to ensure that she could succeed on the field and in the classroom, but his number one concern was her. He is great role model for our kids.”

— Faye, FHS Parent

Mr. Richard

“Our incredible custodian, Mr. Richard works tirelessly behind the scenes every single day. From early mornings to late evenings, he takes on the toughest, often thankless jobs with pride and purpose. But his impact goes far beyond just keeping our building clean and running. He's a quiet force of positivity- always ready with a word of encouragement, a reminder to stay on track or a helping hand. He's someone who holds our students accountable because he believes in them. He remembers so many of these same students well into their adult years, sharing stories of what it was like when they were a kid. And what many not not see is how much he gives back- supporting sports teams, donating to clubs, and showing up for kids in ways that go far beyond his job description. He does it all without a spotlight, without asking for credit, and without slowing down.”

Mrs. Jones

“Mrs. Jones’s passion for creating a joyful and engaging learning environment—both in and out of the classroom—is truly inspiring. Her tireless dedication and generous support of the Fairbanks Education Fund touch countless lives and make a lasting difference. We are so grateful for all that she does. Thank you from the heart!”

Mrs.Scott

“When I think of a safe space, I think of a cozy book nook, a big, comfy bed full of soft pillows or a cottage-style kitchen warmed up by the cookies baking in the oven. But people can be safe spaces too, and Sarah Scott is exactly that. Sarah creates an environment in her classroom that makes learning history and geography fun and exciting, while also giving each of her students a safe place to land on their good days and their bad days. She is open-hearted, thoughtful and considerate of what is going on in their lives that might be contributing to their highs and lows at school. She leads with empathy while maintaining a commitment to learning. And she goes above and beyond, opening up her classroom to students after school by creating connection through crocheting, knitting, writing and chess. On Wednesdays and Fridays after 3pm, after most of the staff has gone home, Sarah's room is filled with the energy of students who are needling yarn, strategizing checkmate and dreaming up their next great story. And the bonus? They are creating a community of new friends along the way. I want to give a big shout-out to Sarah Scott for being a safe space where everyone is welcome.”

Mr. Humphrey
“Coach Humphrey truly embodies what it means to be a great mentor. He has high expectations and pushes the players hard—but it's clear to everyone that this drive comes from a place of genuine care. He's not just focused on winning games on the field; he's focused on building strong, resilient young men for life. His coaching style is a perfect blend of knowledge and fun, always keeping things fair while demanding the best of his players. The players respect him because they know he is invested in them, both on and off the field. My son has played for Coach Humphrey for four years and I truly don't think he would have played for any other coach. This speaks volumes to Matt being such a special person and coach. My husband and I are deeply thankful for the influence he's had and continues to have on our son.”

Mr. Warye
“Sam encourages not just my child but all his students to go beyond the curriculum to learn more about a subject that strikes interest in that student. He has always gone above what is needed to meet the learning styles of each of his students. He took time to make sure Wesley got interventions put in his 504 that he saw in class that I wouldn’t have known he needed. When Wes wanted more information on a subject Sam reached out to me and asked if he could loan a couple books to Wes so he could learn more outside of the. He doesn’t expect every student to reach his learning style. He works with his students to learn on their level. So they can learn and love his class and subject.”

Dr. Smeenk
”When I think of the ideal teacher, the first person who comes to mind is Dr. Smeenk. She is the teacher every student dreams of having. Every day, she creates a welcoming and supportive environment, going beyond the role of a teacher to truly support everyone around her. From the moment you walk into her classroom, you feel a sense of calm. Her teaching style is patient and attentive, and she takes the time to help each student individually, ensuring they have the guidance they need to succeed. Her dedication to both the Fairbanks student body and her community is remarkable. (Oh, and she has a dog, Ava.)”
